Built for 2007 AORR but did not complete

Following a change of plans, our boat is now up for sale.

It has ropes, drogues, radio, gps as per race entry guide as well as 3 solar panels rather than the usual 2. The water maker needs servicing as it has been unused for a few years. Seats & runners of a very good standard and 3 pairs of oars.

The boat is currently in dry storage, under cover in Torpoint, Cornwall

Also have handheld radio, flares and various other bits and pieces that I would be glad to include.

I purchased the boat earlier this year with the intention of rowing it across the Atlantic this winter, however a change of plans has forced me to re sell the boat.
She is currently set up for single rowing however all parts are available, enabling her to be set up as a pairs boat within a few hours.
I bought the boat in excellent condition with a massive inventory (see below) and have since stripped the boat down and repainted her in bright yellow, replacing any fittings necessary. All that needs doing is to remove a few stickers and she will be pretty well ready to race.

The inventory is as follows:
Ocean safety- Ocean -model liferaft 4 - person - Solas B
Comar AIS Radar transponder
Garmin Map 451 GPS, fixed with Antigua maps
Clipper external bulk head mounted GPS repeater
Magellan GPS, handheld with spare batteries
Watermaker (Katadyn) 40 E plus complete spares kit. Has been pickled
9505a Satellite phone and data kit
VHF, fixed VHF DSC unit with external aerial
Drogues, 3 x various sizes (inc. 1 x from Australian paras) + Lines
Safety harness and line x 2

Built: 2007
Crossings: Indian Ocean '09 (11 days at sea), Atlantic ocean '10 (80 days at sea).

During her scrutineering for the Atlantic race she was deemed one of the best prepared boats to enter a Woodvale race and remains in the same condition, with the same equipment as when she began the race. An extremely smart and well-cared for boat. Fully equipped to the 2009 Woodvale specification.

Heritage Explorer (formerly 'Doing Time') was built and fully fitted out of a cost of over £45,000 for the Indian Ocean Rowing Race 2009. She only completed 11 days at sea before pulling out of the race due to lost and broken equipment. She was then bought in July 2009 for the Atlantic Ocean Rowing race 2009/2010. Before entering the race she had:
a full re-spray (£4,500),
new batteries,
extra solar panels added (a total of 185w),
an additional 9ft para anchor added to go with the 12ft,
a spare water-maker (35e) added to go with the Katadyn 40e and survival watermakers.
In short, she was prepared to deal with any scenario and to ensure that the crossing was completed. Masses of spares of everything and masses of advice.

    THE REASON WHY
Woodvale Pairs class Ocean Rowing boat is for sale

Year of construction - 2007
Crossings - AORR 2007 and 2009

“The Reason Why” was built for the 2007 AORR by Cornishmen Paul Harris (Electrical engineer) and Steve Gardner from a Woodvale pairs timber kit. Finished 4th in 2007 race in a time of 55 days and finished in 77 days in 2009 race. Unlike many other boats she didn’t suffer any problems, electrical or otherwise during either race. She is in good condition with a few superficial scrapes but will probably need re-painting before next crossing. She was dry stored between races and is currently stored near Bristol.

                                        Southern Cross
Woodvale Pairs class Ocean Rowing boat plus trailer is for sale

In 2009 Southern Cross became the first wooden pairs boat to cross the Indian Ocean, land to land. A very quick and strong boat, she lead the pairs-class race for 92 days, withstanding a capsize. Following a run of bad weather Southern Cross finished second, only 18 hours behind the Atkinson-Pairs plastic boat. Southern Cross showed incredible reliability, pulling us through battering storms and reaching the highest ever ocean rowing speed recorded, 17.9 knots, while surfing the waves. With a superbly crafted rudder that gave great balance and control over the boat and a Katadyn water-maker, well positioned, low down and dry, that never failed us and comes with the full spares kit. The list of equipment that comes with the boat is available and the boat comes with a trailer.

Challenge class Ocean Rowing boat is for sale

My boat is up for sale  with everything on board, as is. I am being extra
careful with the rudder. Apart from that everything else is working excellent. Water leak is from hole for steering cable and broken mooring.
(Can be fixed by Pavel Rezvoy, who serviced the boat twice, plus I will  come down to La Gomera to help the rowers out with it. )

 It comes with:
all electronics
2 satphones + sim card
connecting cables
waterproof camera,
PDA
card readers
transformers
12v chargers etc , lots of backups.
2 survival suites (1 brand new - mine, the other Oliver's)
all up to date documents,
flares in date
grab bag as it is etc.

Watermaker is ok. Think something wrong with the intake, must examine - motor is perfect

All spares for everything on board included
sea anchors etc.

All good to go condition.

Solar panels excellent. All working perfectly.
If anybody wants to buy it we can have it shipped straight back to La Gomera. Option open for ppl to practice row around the Caribbean before shipping it.

This rowing boat is recently built, has done only one successful crossing of the Atlantic, was tested after the Atlantic row and is in very good  condition.

The boat was built by Woodvale Events in England and carefully prepared by ocean rower Pavel Rezvoy (one of the most experienced rowing boat builders in the world) together with his son Dimitry and the Englishman Jamie Fabrizio in August and September 2006 in Spain.

The boat has just crossed the Atlantic by Spanish solo rower Andreu Mateu (Dec 2nd 2006 - Mar 7th 2007) and is now back in a warehouse in Tarragona, near Barcelona (Spain).

The boat has been cleaned and prepared and just needs a little of work in order to be ready to go into the water again.

For the list of equipment
go to www.withapairofoars.com and see “Equipment¨” (everything in capital letters is included in the price of the boat).

The price for the trolley is 1.500 ˆ (Euros). Not negotiable.  I have reduced the price already two times !!! And the boat is priced at 50% of the original price.
If you want you can fly to Barcelona prepare the boat in one week and take it fully equipped together with the trolley to The Canaries Islands by driving with a rented 4x4 car to Cadiz, and then take the boat from Cadiz to Tenerife and La Gomera by cruising boat.
I can also make arrangements for you and place it in La Gomera or Tenerife where you can make the final arrangements, so you do not have to worry about transport and just fly from your country to Tenerife and find the boat ready there. (price of this service to be calculated).

For this price of 26.000 ˆ I will be happy to spend a full week-end with you to advise you and help you in all the preparations, so your crossing is as successful as mine.

A great opportunity for those who want a safe boat and have no time to prepare it.

For more information do not hesitate to call me or email

I will be pleased to help you even if you do not want this boat.
