Rowers begin record attempt from WA |

| Two British ex-servicemen have begun their world record attempt to row from Australia to Africa. Rob Abernethy, 31, and 45-year-old Mike Noel-Smith have started out from Carnarvon, in Western Australia's north, in their 21-foot rowboat. The pair hopes to row the 4,400 miles across the Indian Ocean in about 60 days. The project's director, Chris Cherrington, says the attempt has been organised to raise more than $600,000 for charity. "And they're actually doing it for charity called Sport Aiding medical Research for KidS [SPARKS] which is a UK based charity, and the specific cause that they're raising money for is for research into meningitis and septicaemia." |
