Born February 1st 1980 in Bristol
Eldest of 4 children (2 brothers and a sister)
School: Bristol Grammar School
Began travel days with 2-week exchange visit organized by the school to St Petersburg, Russia.

Sponsored by the RAF as a navigator officer thru sixth form until graduation from the University.

Studied Mechanical engineering at Birmingham University.

Transfer to the Royal Navy in 2002 and commenced officer at training at Britannia Royal Naval College, Dartmouth.

Upon commissioning undertook my Junior officer time on the Destroyer HMS York.
Subsequently volunteered to join the sub service as marine engineer, completed Nuclear engineer training and sub escape training in Portsmouth and was appointed to the sub HMS Vengeance.

Unfortunately prior to joining this sub I suffered the loss of a large portion of my eye sight which has now left me virtually registered as a blind person.

I was medically discharged from the Royal Navy in summer of 2005.

This is obviously a live changing experience. I have endeavoured to make the most of my situation and continue to push myself to achieve all I can.
To that end I now work as a banker for HSBC in Canary Wharf and have completed a number of marathons and climbed the highest peaks in Europe and Africa. I am entering the Marathon des Sables in March 2007.

I will be rowing the Atlantic to push myself to my physical and mental limits and hope to become the first visually impaired person to row an ocean

Initially I planned to complete this row with a colleague from the Royal Navy. Unfortunately, there is no one available to team up with for the attempt due to service commitments...

Matt Boreham
Born 14/10/1968
General builder

I have been involved with ocean rowing since 1995. I had an aborted attempt (due to my partner becoming ill) in the Challenge Business Atlantic rowing race in 1997.
My second attempt in 1998 was again from Tenerife but this time solo. Gear failure put paid to that crossing.
1999 was a northern crossing from Newfoundland. Shipping difficulties delayed the start by so much that I turned back...
2004 - entered ORS Atlantic Rowing Regatta and successfully completed the crossing...
