"Tűzhangya" in Gran Canaria

Weight: 160 kg only (unloaded).
Length: 8,9 m.
Width: 1,65 m.
Draught: 2 m.

Ocean rowboat Tűzhangya was designed and built by Hungarian ocean rowers Andrea Pálos and Gábor Rakonczhai, who in 2006/07rowed her from Cadiz, Spain to Antigua.

In 2007, when Hungarian János Vasvari decided to row the Atlantic they loaned  their boat to János together with their support and tutoring.
In November 2007 Gabor and his brother Miklós joined János to row the boat from Lagos (Sagres), Portugal to Gran Canaria as a sea trial and with the intention for János proceeding from there alone across the Atlantic. As a result of sea trial it was agreed that János will leave a year later - in autumn 2008. Meantime the boat is in Gran Canaria in Marina of Las Palmas.

Andrea and Gábor have decided to offer any potential ocean rower/rowers a unique possibility of making first practical steps (strokes) in ocean rowing - anyone who wants to experience what it is like to row an ocean rowboat on the sea , who is not yet confident in her/himself and wants to get some experience in ocean rowing, in navigation and use of electronics, who wants to get tips, advise, practical skills and knowledge of life on board - are welcome to contact Andrea and Gábor and discuss how to make it happen.

You can use the boat for a weekend, for a week or even longer, and stay off shore under the guidance  of Gábor.
Note: Gábor can take max. three persons at a time.

This, by the way, can be a good chance of taking pictures and video to be used in any promotional campaign and work with sponsors.

"We know it from our own experience", say ocean rowers, "how much a training with rowing for a couple of hours a day and returning to marina differs from actual rowing across an ocean. In order to get at least some idea and basic practical knowledge of life at sea, to understand daily and nightly routine onboard, you should stay at sea for several days without landing. This may save you from a lot and lot of unpleasant surprises after the actual start".

Just contact Andrea and Gábor and feel free to ask them any question re this matter.

Gábor's ocean rows include
2006- Cadiz- Rota- Casablanca- El- Jadida- La Graciosa- Gran Canaria

2007- Gran Canaria- Antigua ( 51 days )

2007- Lagos - Graciosa- Gran Canaria
