Whales only 20
to 30m away from boat . Night time so could not see them properly
but could smell breath and see spray and sometimes dark lump.
Strong steady wind from South. Not making ground but actually
losing. Energy low. Decide to take a small break and recover a bit
till conditions are more favourable. Threw out large sea drogue
(1meter Diameter). Both slept for the first time together for 3
hours.
Have been blown north and back 3 miles.
Conditions flatter than ever before. Ocean turned 2 glass.
Moved Mt. House to stern where no chance of getting saturated with leaking
hatches. 72 meals for two.
Tried water maker – airlocks Brett went through whole system to make
better plan.
Water maker sorted. Re-directed hoses.
Produced 14 litres of water.
Scott shifted water ballast 2 rear & sides.
Big turtle spotted (Loggerhead)
Wind finally came after absolute calm. NOT!!!!!! We outran the wind
actually. It was so pathetic.
Swim Time. Took photos. Amazing to look down and see nothing but Atlantic
blue and light rays going down for ever. “man stares into the abyss
and…holy s--t” Nothing growing on hull. Had Caribbean bath.

Sea of Glass
Brett started rowing. Really energized. Sometime during day I stopped
wishing for weather 2 change and just accepted whatever came. One
forgets 2 do this and have to re-experience it again and again to
remember the lesson.
Moon set – no more horizon. Starry sky, reflection on water. The
abyss is unknown: is it falling into the ocean or out of the earth
into the universe? Vice versa? Confusion the true king of whatever…
Plankton illuminating the water with every stroke of oars. Incredible. I
was in a dreamlike state – euphoric, high on life. Mesmerized.
Dolphins visited, porpoising – splashes of phosphorescence! |
