 Charles Hedrich (France)

January 23 2007
 17:21GMT

Charles landed at 15h25 UTC on the north shore of the Amazon river in the South West of the Guara Point. The position of his landing is 0°54’10'' North and 50°03' West. He is in the forest with the monkeys, close to an Indian village.

His wife is on a boat coming from Macapa with a local guide. They should meet by the end of the afternoon. They do not know what the plan is. They might stay in an Indian village for the night and go to Macapa tomorrow.

The last two days were difficult with very strong tidal stream currents, many sand banks and several places with no indications on the charts. Charles has not came across any boat in the Amazon.

 15:33GMT
We were happy to receive a call from Charles Hedrich 8 minutes after he successfully landed on the Northern shore of the Amazon River at 15:25GMT. He would have to wait for at least two hours for a power boat with his support team and his wife to come on the spot. Meanwhile Charles jokes that the only creatures that welcomed his arrival  were cheerful and noisy crowds of monkeys - not so bad after numb  fish that he was having for a company during the last month :)

January 21 2007.  From Christian Dumard
Charles Hedrich has decided to finish his Atlantic crossing in Brazil, at the entrance of the Amazon, a little more South than previously expected (Cape Cassiporй).

It is not the easiest place to finish because the Guyana current (pushing towards the North), the Amazon current and the tidal stream currents do not make it an easy approach.

Charles has refused all assistance for the last days of his crossing.

He should cross the meridian 49°01 West tonight. He will then be in the Northern Amazon Channel. He could reach the Brazilian coast Tuesday.

January 18 2007

Charles Hedrich is expected to arrive Monday, January 22nd at the north of Brazil. His team taken along by his wife left this morning Paris for Cayenne, before going the following day to Belém, Brazil and finding a vessel to recover Charles at sea and tow his boat to Belém.
