The Norwegian doctor Stein Hoff reached land
in French Guyana late Thursday night, becoming the first person to have
rowed from Europe to South America. He used 96 days, 12 hours and 45 minutes on the 6850 km trip across the Atlantic. The trip started in Lisbon on August 10th, and nearly 97 days later he was able to set foot on dry land at Georgetown in French Guyana. He had rowed for 20 of the last 24 hours, and described the last stretch as the toughest of the whole trip, according to Nettavisen. He will be joined by his wife Diana Friday night.
