GALE HITS ROW PAIR

27/04/2001

NEWLYWED Clare Welford, 24, said goodbye to ocean-rowing husband Tim after just two weeks. The 32-year-old Royal Marine corporal flew out to Japan with Cpl Dominic Mee to attempt the first ever row across the North Pacific, backed by The Mirror. Weather permitting, they will set off from the Japanese fishing village of Choshi next Wednesday. The pair plan to arrive under San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge 120 days later, in October. Clare said: "I miss Tim terribly already and I can't wait to see him in California."
