Para pair in rowing title bid

January 05, 2004

SUPERFIT soldiers Mick Perrens and Chris Morgan are set to race -across the Atlantic Ocean — in a  23ft rowing boat.
The battle-hardened paras aim to conquer the 2,900-mile wide ocean in a world record 40 days — and beat 13 other teams into the bargain.
Corporal Mick, 31, and Lance Corporal Chris, 40, will set off from the Canaries on January 20 and row up to 100 miles a day for Barbados.
The target record was set two months ago by New Zealanders Kevin Biggar and James Fitzgerald.
But Mick — a veteran of Kosovo and Iraq — said: "I'm a big England fan and after the World Cup win it would be nice for us to take the title away from New Zealand."
And they are confident of success even though the furthest Chris has rowed before was 20 miles off the Devon coast.
Chris said: "We're raring to go. We want to get out there and get rowing."
