The team plan to row to Falmouth via the Isles of Scilly |
A high-tech boat, which will be rowed
across the North Atlantic from Canada to Falmouth, has been revealed on
Teesside.
The four-man team plans to make the 32-day journey from Newfoundland in
the specially-designed Atlantic Sprit boat - an achievement they say
will be faster than has been done before.
Team Leader Mark Stubbs said: "Getting the right team to the start
line is most of the battle."
Atlantic Spirit was shown to the public at the Tees Barrage near
Middlesbrough on Friday.
The rowing team includes brothers-in-law George Rock and Nigel Morris
from Teesside, Mark Stubbs from Dorset, and Rob Munslow from
Monmouth. |

Ready to go
Atlantic Spirit is built from carbon fibre, which is used Formula 1 motor racing.
Patrick Thornber, spokesman for team sponsor British Waterways, said: "Their over-riding enthusiasm for what lies ahead is infectious, and their commitment to share it through modern technology is just as important as breaking records."
Mr Stubbs added: "We've prepared well and the immense good will from the public drives us on when we think we have reached our limits."
Atlantic Spirit will set off in June 2002, on a date which will depend on the weather. |
