"Ukraine" is launched !!! and Theodore is doing the first strokes… He can't hide his excitement -hands have been longing for oars for such a long time !
"Wonderful oars - small and much lighter than those I had during my previous row - may be twice as light. I can feel only resistance of water, and the oars are just weightless!"
For those, who is not familiar with specificity of rowing an ocean, it can seem to be strange, that oars are only 3 meters in length. "As far as it goes about ocean, the oars should meet its sizes: the longer - the better!" But in fact, rowing at high seas with long oars can become a real torture; short ones allow you to row, not losing impact, being entered more precisely into the body of a wave. . Well, and advantages of small weight would become obvious even to those who is far from rowing in general, if they think about distance to be covered and 14-16 hours of rowing daily. Somebody has calculated that to cross an ocean a rower has to make more than a million strokes.

After CeBit "Ukraine" moved  - Thanks to John Zeigler! This IS a real brotherhood of ocean rowers!  -  to Atlantic Highlands, the native town of Harbo and Samuelsen. Theodore and his team of support were welcomed by members of local Yacht Club  and descendants of Samuelsen. The boat was berthed in Marina Atlantic Highlands. More details about the stay in Atlantic Highlands to follow.

Most interesting person at CeBit. This is Theodore Rezvoy and the boat he's going to row across the Atlantic beginning tomorrow. Wow. What are you doing over the weekend? He says it will take him 80 days.

This is part of the photo essay I'll be running on my PCMag.com column next week -- check it out since these are my last blog entries.. I want to thank everyone at Boingboing for giving me a chance to take up space on their system. Also if you want to find out what I'm going to be up to blogwise send me a note here

Today is the last day at the exhibition, which appeared to be a real success for "Ukraine". The boat looks great! She was exhibited with the State flag of Ukraine. "This is one of those moments, that awake a genuine feeling of patriotism in your heart. I am happy, that so unexpectedly I was able to add a small bit to good image of my country".

There was a very nice visit to the boat by a Consul of Ukraine in the USA - Natalia Martynenko. Ukrainian Consulate deserves the warmest words.
Starting with a small problem, that made Theodore to ask Vice-Consul Anton Mytnik for help, and up till today The Consulate is rendering Theodore the most friendly assistance. And being far from home, you can hardly overestimate the welcome Theodore is getting here.

A group of journalists has arrived from Ukraine to make a coverage of "Ukraine" prior to the start. They have interviewed Theodore and his father, Pavel Rezvoy, - Technical Director of the project.

At noon, a press-conference took place at the headquarters of The Consulate, hosted by The General Consul Sergey Pogoreltzev.
It looked as if all reporters of Ukrainian Media, working in New York, as well as representatives of Ukrainian editions of American Press and radio "Liberty" were present there.
Ocean Rowing Society was represented by its President Kenneth Crutchlow, who is organizing the departure of Rezvoy from New York

At the end of questions and answers journalists wished Theodore good luck and safe journey.
A nice reception crowned the conference. Cordial host offered his guests Ukrainian Champaign and, quoting Mr.Crutchlow, " some delicious specialities, which have arrived to the table straight from Ukraine"
