The ORS Int. is the official adjudicator of ocean rowing records for Guinness World Records

Re La Gomera : "It is not a disaster but it is and absolute mess", said Tiny Little

Tiny Little phoned on his mobile to ORS HQ at 14.30GMT Jan 17th to report that La Gomera has been hit by a big storm that has caused considerable damage to the town of San Sebastian La Gomera. Tiny was calling from the only bar open in San Sebastian - you guessed it Manola's !
He said, on his way to the bar he was waist high in water at the Marina end of the square, with trees and debris floating all over the place.
"The Marina is awash and we do not expect power to be restored for 36 hours".
"The atmosphere at the bar was like refugees gathered together helping out where they could, including sweeping out the mud. Another storm is forecast for tomorrow, no one yet reported injured. It will take a tremendous amount of work to clear the harbour up".

It was at the end of December 2002 that  a storm of this scale hit La Gomera.  Then an another ocean rower, Anne Quemere was involved in it. As far as there is no communication (Internet) with La Gomera for now and we cannot get photos , have a look at the pictures of  San Sebastian taken by Doug Carroll after the storm in 2002     >>>1  >>>2
