| Tim
was born in Chatham, Kent in 1970 and went to school at Kings
School, Rochester. He represented the school at many levels in a
wide variety of sports and activities, but he concentrated on
rugby and swimming, until he was in the Sixth Form when he took up
rowing. After a year working as a junior teacher at a boys
school in Queensland, Australia, Tim went to Southampton
University to study German. He joined the rowing club and competed
in the 1st VIII for two years at many events including Henley,
twice. In 1993 he cycled across Canada for charity from Halifax to
Vancouver a solo effort that took him 4000 miles over eight
weeks, covering an average of over 90 miles a day. After
graduating in 1994, he went to RMA Sandhurst to train to be an
Army Officer, where a year later, he commissioned into The Royal
Artillery. He continued his rowing both at Sandhurst and in the
Gunners and reached the quarter-final of the Thames Challenge Cup
at Henley in 1995, as well as rowing for the Army later the same
year. Tim joined 5th Regiment Royal Artillery, based in
Catterick, North Yorkshire and was a Troop Commander for 18 months
before taking command of a 50 man multi-national unit on a UN tour
to Cyprus in 1997. Following this, he returned to regimental
duties until leaving the Forces in August 1998. He now works
for an IT services company in London. Among Tims other
achievements are sailing across the Atlantic, cycling off -road
across the Pyrenees, cycling from John OGroats to Lands End,
taking part in two marathons (one around Snowdonia in 3hrs
34mins), several triathlons including a half-ironman and many long
distance walks around the world. In addition to training for the
2001 race Tim is hoping to reach the top of Mt Aconcagua in the
near future. |
Jo
was born in Birmingham in 1972. He was educated at Kings School
Worcester, where he won a choral scholarship and represented the
school at 1st team level in rugby, rowing and cricket. After
completing his A levels he travelled to New Zealand to play rugby
in Wellington and on his return attended Carnegie School of
Physical Education in Leeds. During this time Jo played a
lot of rugby, notably for Nottingham and Headingley rugby clubs,
and was chosen to play in the Welsh Under 21 squad. He entered RMA
Sandhurst in September 1994, where he met Tim. Following his time
in the army and a brief spell in business he went to Cambridge
University in 1997 to study for a PGCE. Whilst at Cambridge, Jo
played rugby for the University and captained the 2nd XV. His
other interests include swimming and skiing and he has also
competed in the Tall Ships Race. Jo recently spend a period
of time working as a PE teacher and House Master at Queen
Elizabeth's School, Barnet and now works at The Perse School,
Cambridge where he is a teaches PE and rugby . |
