The boat lies about 1.5 miles west of the dock at Abrahams Bay, Mayaguana, Bahamas. Using Google Earth, I guess that the dock is located at approximately 22:21:52.4N 72:58:14.3W.

I found the boat during a fishing expedition with a friend. We had decided to walk west from the dock at Abrahams Bay and see what we could find. I noticed the hatch cover that I photographed lying on a pile of conch shells near the dock. We then walked down the beach for approximately a mile and then waded out several hundred yards to look for fish. We continued to wade west down the bay for at least another mile.

At this point we decided we should probably turn back because the water became deeper and wade fishing would be difficult. Around this time I noticed an overturned boat down the beach. I told my friend that I wanted wade in and look at the boat before we started out return.

As I approached the boat I realized from all the sponsor decals that it was some type of racing craft. A closer inspection revealed it to be an ocean rowing boat.

As I took pictures of the boat I wondered if the crew had been rescued, and if they were all right. I have grown up near the sea and have spent time on the ocean since I was young. I felt a bond with these unknown mariners, having experienced rough conditions in small boats many times over the years. On our way back I took pictures of the hatch cover to help me locate information on the boat, the crew, and the circumstances that led to its arrival on Mayaguana.
