Viatcheslav Kavtchenko |
Rostov on Don Russia To: Kenneth Crutchlow/ Frw: Richard Jones Dear Richard I read on the Ocean Rowing Society website where you offered to let me use your satellite telephone for my row across the Atlantic ocean. This is truly a very nice gesture on your part, and one that means a lot to me and my family. I was prepared to leave without any communications because, as you say sponsorship in Russia is so hard to find, I could never dream to have a satellite phone till your kind offer. I invite you to visit me in my country after my row, I am sure we will have a lot to talk about and there'll be no need in satellite telephone for it :) Wish you quiet Ocean and favourable winds. Stay well! Huggs! Viatcheslav Kavtchenko |

Hi Richard, I have been following your progress since I saw a article in the Logan Herald Journal weekend insert just after Christmas that had your web site address in it. I really admire your courage and especially I like the name you gave your boat. I can't help but think that the "Brother of Jared" is being watched over by the original "Brother". I can only imagine the joy and excitement you felt when you saw your first site of land. All the Salt Lake City TV news reports had a story on you last night in regards to you officially crossing the Atlantic and coming into the Caribbean. It was very good. Your "near miss" with the JFK was also mentioned. Best of luck and may you have a strong steady wind at your back, and the captains of the ships in the area have a good lookout for small yellow boats. Laura Ferguson |

Dear Ocean
Rowers: While I do not understand your interest in this most unusual "sport", I fully recognize your right to undertake it, with one proviso: you are completely on your own! No Coast Guard... No Air Force... No Navy.... no dedicated utilization of public resources whatever. And the same goes for high-altitude balloonists. God Speed. |
