The ORS Int. is the official adjudicator of ocean rowing records for Guinness World Records

Louis Ginglo

Born 13/02/1965

Finance manager

After nearly twenty years of office life I want a real challenge which will test me both physically and mentally. I feel a need to do this in an environment where I take sole responsibility for the outcome.

My experience with rowing is limited to coxing racing craft (fours, eights) during my teenage years. So a great part of the experience is the learning curve and training between now and January.

CHARITY:

My wife, Ellie, and I are supporting a charity in Cambodia – the “Starfish Project”. While travelling through Cambodia recently, we had the opportunity to meet people working for and benefiting from the Project, and like their way of doing things.

Details of the Project can be found on its website: www.starfishcambodia.org In summary, though, the object of the charity is to provide direct person to person support to Cambodians who are stranded outside the bounds of assistance of the government or existing NGO's.

In order to minimise the cost of international bank transfer fees for the Project and donors, we are gathering contributions in various locations, and will remit the entire balance to the Project at the end of my row. This is being done with the full knowledge and permission of the Project.

I have received a generous discount on the cost of boat-signage from Pete and Trev at Devon Signs, Exmouth, England on the basis that the row is supporting a charity. Other than this, my participation in the regatta is entirely self-funded, and none of the contributions you make to the Project will be retained by me.
